Holiday table flowers that leave room for the meal
Keep the flowers low, the serving space clear and the palette simple. Repeat small arrangements down a long table so guests can talk and platters can pass easily.
Plan my flower box
- 013 small vases per 6-foot table
- 02Arrive 1–2 days before
- 03Measure room for platters
How many stems do you need?
- One 6-foot dining table
- 3 small vases, each with 3 bronze mum stems and 2 greenery stems: 9 flowers and 6 greenery stems.
- One low centerpiece
- 8–12 flower stems plus 4–6 greenery stems in a compact, water-filled vessel.
- One mantel accent
- 2 stable vases with 5 flower stems each. Keep arrangements well away from fire and hot surfaces.
Four tables at nine mum stems each uses 36 stems. Two welcome vases at eight stems each bring the total to 52; add 10% spare stems for a target of 58. Test the table with plates, platters and glassware in place before deciding how many vases fit.
Choose flowers that work for the occasion
Bronze football mums suit Thanksgiving and autumn dinners. Silver Dollar eucalyptus brings a soft green shape to winter tables; roses or alstroemeria work for a lighter palette. Chrysanthemums, carnations and alstroemeria hold well in water.
For Christmas, build around your chosen colors rather than assuming autumn bronze fits every table. Use eucalyptus for repeated green accents and choose red or white flowers from the date’s catalog. Keep flowers away from ovens and heating vents; use flameless candles near foliage.
Give yourself time to arrange
Start your holiday order 2–3 weeks ahead and choose arrival one or two days before the gathering. For Thanksgiving Thursday, order Tuesday or Wednesday arrival. Around Christmas, choose from the arrival dates shown in your cart; holiday delivery days are limited. Set up flowers the day before so the kitchen has your attention on the day.
After choosing your flowers, open the arrival-date picker in your cart and select the day you want the box delivered.
From the box into water
- Unpack as soon as the box arrives. Check the stems, then separate the varieties into clean buckets.
- Fill buckets with fresh water and cut-flower food mixed at the packet’s dosage. Strip foliage that would sit under the waterline.
- Recut the stem ends with sharp, clean snips and put them straight into water. Let them drink for several hours before arranging.
- Keep buckets in a cool room away from sun, heaters and ripening fruit. Check water daily and replace cloudy water; keep finished arrangements in water until setup.
A flower budget
One 100-stem mum box and one 20-bunch eucalyptus box give a flower budget for a larger gathering or shared order. The four-table plus welcome-vase recipe uses 52 mums, leaving 48 for spares and additional displays. Count usable stems in the eucalyptus bunches before dividing them. For one dining table, share the boxes across several hosts.

Frequently asked questions
How many flowers do I need for a 6-foot holiday table?
Start with three small vases, each holding three flower stems and two greenery stems. That is nine flowers and six greenery stems. Lay out plates and serving dishes first to check the spacing.
When should Thanksgiving flowers arrive?
For a Thursday gathering, order Tuesday or Wednesday arrival. Hydrate immediately and arrange the vases before the day of the meal.
Can flowers arrive on Christmas Day?
Choose from the arrival dates shown in your cart, with a one-to-two-day buffer before the gathering. Holiday delivery days are limited.
Should I use a garland or small vases?
Small water-filled vases keep stems hydrated and are easy to move for serving dishes. For a garland, measure the table plus any end drape and secure the binding; do not treat loose greenery bunches as a finished garland.
Is a full flower box too much for one table?
A full box can exceed one table’s needs. Divide the order among several hosts, use extra stems for welcome and gift arrangements, or build your plan around the smallest boxes shown.
